4401 Conner
LAND, Inc. completed renovations of 4401 Conner in Fall 2013. This 25,000 square foot building is the former home of a Henry Ford Health Systems clinic, and was remodeled to accommodate the corporate headquarters of Warren/Conner Development Coalition, LAND, Inc., Detroit Eastside Community Collaborative and Adult Well Being Services.

Mack Avenue Green Thoroughfare
LAND, Inc. also works extensively in the Mack Avenue corridor from Alter to Conner. Beginning in the summer of 2012, LAND, Inc. will begin work on the Mack Avenue Green Thoroughfare, a project that grew out of the Lower Eastside Action Plan (LEAP) and proposes to turn a once vibrant, but now blighted section of Mack Avenue into a permanent passive green space that will improve air quality, help with storm water management and pay homage to the history of Mack Avenue. Funded initially by the Erb Family Foundation, the project is expected to be completed in summer 2014 with the generous support of Bank of America Charitable Foundation.

West Village Manor
West Village Manor, a 20 unit mixed-use in Detroit’s West Village area, was purchased and financed by a combination of grants and loans from MSHDA, Detroit Development Fund, Invest Detroit and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation totaling nearly $500,000. Façade improvements, landscaping, a new parking lot and interior upgrades on West Village Manor were completed in July 2013, and additional renovations to commercial units are ongoing.

Mack Ashland
LAND, Inc. helped to facilitate the development of the Mack-Alter Supportive Housing development located at the corner of Mack and Ashland in partnership with Southwest Housing Solutions, Northeast Guidance Center and U-SNAP-BAC. The project was completed in Fall 2013. This beautifully designed building provides 39 units of permanent supportive housing for local residents along with 6,000 square feet of high quality commercial space on the ground floor.

Mack Alter Square Shopping Center
From 1987 to 1994, DETROIT East CDC assembled 5 acres of land and signed one of the first Family Dollar Store leases on Detroit’s Eastside for property near Mack and Alter. Over time DETROIT East recruited one of the few Secretary of State branches to the community, and added a furniture rental store, a health clinic, a cell phone store – and in one of its prouder moments, became the first landlord for Shorebank Detroit when that community development bank entered the Detroit market. DETROIT East then partnered with DTE Energy and U SNAP BAC in the mid 1990’s to reclaim the northeast corner of Mack and Alter and convert it to Morningside Community Park. In 1997, DETROIT East CDC partnered with Joint Cities CDC in a project that joined young people from Grosse Pointe and Detroit to paint a gorgeous mural on the side of one of DECDC’s BUILDINGS. In 2006 that mural was preserved and moved to the Rohns Rolf Community Park in order to make way for Mack Alter Square Shopping Center to be built.

DETROIT East CDC’s original vision saw fruition starting in 2004, when DECDC teamed with LAND, Inc., starting in 2000. The two organizations assembled and packaged the land necessary for the shopping center by partnering with local developers Michael Curis and Mark Thomas who formed Mack Alter LLC. Mack Alter Square rose from the ground and today phases one and two of Mack Alter Square are complete. The DETROIT East shareholders’ vision has truly become reality – without that original investment, the Mack Alter Square shopping center would not exist, and the revitalization of this important corridor would not be underway.
